Ryan Stemsrud has been named general manager of Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club, a new semi-private club currently under development in Surprise, Ariz., northwest of Phoenix. The 18-hole Nicklaus designed golf course is scheduled to open in January of 2021, and the 21,000 square-foot clubhouse is slated to open in the summer/early fall of 2021. The club is managed by Troon and is the centerpiece of the 780-acre Sterling Grove Toll Brothers luxury lifestyle community.

Stemsrud has nearly 20 years of club management experience having served as general manager at private clubs, semi-private clubs and daily-fee courses across the country. Stemsrud is no stranger to Arizona golf, having served in various leadership positions at SunRidge Canyon Golf Club in Fountain Hills, StoneRidge Golf Club in Prescott Valley and Sedona Golf Resort in Sedona in the early years of his career. Most recently, Stemsrud was the general manager at Springdale Golf Club, a 125-year old private club in Princeton, New Jersey. He has been with Troon since 2010.

“Ryan is a proven leader, detail oriented and has an incredible track record of improving the operations at every club he leads. We’re thrilled to have him leading the team at Sterling Grove, one of the most exciting new projects in the Troon portfolio,” said Mike Ryan, chief operating officer, Troon.

The staff-gated, luxury resort community will encompass 2,200 homes and includes both all-ages and active adult neighborhoods, an 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course, and 35,000 square-feet of recreational amenities, including a modern ranch-inspired clubhouse with restaurants, spa, fitness, tennis, pools, and pickleball. According to Nicklaus Design, the concept for the golf course is to showcase features from the golden age of golf architecture, providing golfers with a very playable and enjoyable golf course. Incorporating design and architecture from some of Arizona’s most iconic neighborhoods, the community will include trails, parks, fishing lakes, community gardens, pet friendly parks, and many new and innovative community amenities.

Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club will ultimately become an exclusive private club reserved for members and their guests. When the course opens in 2021, and for a limited time as the Sterling Grove community builds out, the club will be open to daily-fee and unaccompanied non-member play.
