Even after 25 years since it opened, SunRidge Canyon is still one of my favorite courses in Arizona. I may be a little biased because I was the Head Golf Professional here upon opening in 1995 but the facility has everything that makes Arizona golf special – great views of the desert from every hole, great views from the clubhouse that are among the best as the patio sits at nearly the highest point of the property and overlooks the Canyon from which the course descends and returns, and the course isn’t overly long in yards at around 6,800 yards but it can be extremely challenging.
Unfolding around the rugged ridges and shady canyons unique to the area, the golf course gradually descends before doubling back to climb back to its beginning. This elevation change lies at the heart of the dramatic golf experience at SunRidge Canyon. Its design follows Mother Nature’s lead, and in the end, the beauty and challenge is a true Arizona desert golf experience. The pictured green above is one of my favorite par 3s in the state and is definitely an important part of the SunRidge Canyon “Wicked 6.” It doesn’t have to play long to frighten even the most experienced golfers. Making a three on this hole definitely feels like a birdie.
These are the views that from which all others will be compared. There aren’t many courses open to the public that can compare to the spectacular views from the clubhouse patio. Golf course, native desert, and mountains – both near and far – are featured like no other. The Wicked Six Bar & Grill is a Modern American Taphouse featuring steaks, gourmet burgers, sandwiches, wraps, wood-fired artisan pizzas and chef specialties that add to the unforgettable round of golf. However, the clubhouse can also be enjoyed by non-golfers as well as it serves the entire community and is the best spot in Fountain Hills to relax and enjoy all Arizona has to offer.
