With a reputation as being one of the best and most challenging golf courses in Arizona for nearly 25 years, Las Sendas Golf Club doesn’t have much left to prove but it continues to do just that every single day. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr, it’s a true desert course in the high foothills of the Usery Mountains in North Mesa. From an elevation nearly 800 feet above Phoenix, there are views and sunsets from both the course and clubhouse that match the superb layout.
Although many view Mesa, Arizona as being somewhat flat, Las Sendas takes full advantage of being amongst the beginning of a gorgeous mountain range including a sizeable mountain that is circumvented by several holes throughout the course. Although the native terrain around some of the holes can be a bit treacherous, the sheer beauty makes up for it and the course superintendent does a nice job at keeping the edges clean enough to make it relatively easy to find most errant shots – you may not be able to play it as it lies but you can save $4 on a lost ball. Most mid-handicap players will not have to worry about losing several sleeves of balls throughout their round.
The fairways and turf areas off the tee are actually wider than expected and provide a reasonable landing area on most holes for the average player. The key to playing well on the course is choosing the correct set of tees so that you don’t have to hit too many longer irons into the greens as they certainly offer some potential difficulty in the areas surrounding most. However, Las Sendas is generous with tee selections offering 6 sets of tees so you can match your abilities to the challenge of the course.
Las Sendas has always been a leader in providing an outstanding clubhouse experience and is a destination for both golfers and non-golfers alike. The décor and finishes have been nicely updated providing an awesome place to enjoy a beer or meal after your round. There are also plenty of television screens throughout allowing you to view multiple sporting events simultaneously. The Grille at Las Sendas is the place to be for a wide selection of specially prepared appetizers and tavern-style salads, sandwiches and main courses. The casual patio dining experience is surrounded by breathtaking views of the mountains, desert, fairways and Phoenix city lights that will be sure to create lasting memories.
